SVIMS Extends a Grand Welcome to the 13th MBBS Batch at Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women
A New Chapter Begins in the Journey of Medical Education
“Become not only competent doctors, but compassionate doctors with a heart for humanity” – Dr. Gudaru Jagadish, Director & Vice-Chancellor, SVIMS
“We will care for our students as our own children, with the highest priority to their education, safety, health and well-being”
Tirupati:
Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women, under Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS), Tirupati, accorded a warm and grand welcome to its 13th MBBS Batch for the academic year 2026–27, marking the beginning of an important new chapter in the lives of the aspiring young doctors.
A Students & Parents Orientation Programme and Foundation Course was organised for the newly admitted MBBS students and their parents to familiarise them with the institution, academic curriculum, professional discipline, medical ethics, campus environment, student welfare mechanisms and the responsibilities associated with the medical profession.
The 2026–27 batch is the 13th MBBS batch of Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women. As part of the ongoing admission process, 58 students have so far secured admission to the institution through the applicable admission quotas.
“Medical education is a noble journey of responsibility and service”
Addressing the students and their parents, Dr. Gudaru Jagadish, Director & Vice-Chancellor, SVIMS, recalled that Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women was inaugurated in 2016, the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu, inaugurated Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women. The institution commenced MBBS admissions with 150 seats in 2017 and subsequently expanded to 175 seats during 2019–20.
Dr. Jagadish emphasised that medical education should never be viewed merely as a pathway towards obtaining a degree or building a career.
“Medical education is a noble journey that prepares you to accept responsibility for human life, relieve suffering and serve society. Knowledge alone does not make a complete doctor. Knowledge must be accompanied by compassion, discipline, ethics, humility and a genuine commitment to humanity,” he said.
He encouraged the students to make the fullest possible use of the excellent academic, clinical and research opportunities available at SVIMS and to learn from the experience and expertise of their teachers and senior clinicians.
“Leave fear behind and move forward with confidence”
Addressing the young students entering medical college for the first time, Dr. Jagadish acknowledged that a new campus, unfamiliar surroundings, new classmates and teachers could naturally create some initial anxiety or apprehension.
“You have come here to acquire the knowledge and skills that will one day enable you to heal the sick and save lives. Therefore, leave behind fear, hesitation and anxiety and move forward with confidence. You have entered an excellent institution. Whenever you have a problem or a doubt, freely approach your teachers, seniors and wardens. Never hesitate to ask questions. Remain curious, keep learning and continuously improve yourselves,” he advised.
“We will care for your children as our own”
In a reassuring message to parents, Dr. Jagadish said that the SVIMS administration would give the highest priority to the education, accommodation, safety, health and overall welfare of every student.
“We do not look upon your children merely as students of this institution. We will care for them as our own children. From their education and accommodation to their safety, health and well-being, we will extend every possible support. Whenever there is even a small difficulty, students should feel free to approach their wardens, faculty members or the concerned officials without hesitation,” he said.
He added that the Dean, Principal, faculty members and wardens were working together to provide students with a safe, comfortable and academically enriching environment.
Special emphasis on student welfare
Dr. Jagadish stated that the institution functions under the aegis of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), with the blessings of Lord Sri Venkateswara, and carries forward a strong tradition of service and compassion.
He said that food and other essential facilities are being provided to the students and that the administration would continue to improve campus and hostel amenities by taking into consideration the genuine needs and suggestions of students and parents.
“You have left your homes, parents and friends to begin this new journey, but you are not alone here. The entire SVIMS family stands with you. Make these five-and-a-half years meaningful, enjoyable, disciplined and successful. My wish is that you should emerge not only as good doctors, but as good human beings and compassionate doctors,” Dr. Jagadish told the students.
SVIMS assures full support to accident-injured student Bhavana
In a special gesture reflecting the institution’s commitment to student welfare, Dr. Jagadish interacted with the parents of Ms. Bhavana, who secured admission to the MBBS programme at Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women this academic year and had sustained serious injuries in an earlier accident.
He assured her parents that the institution would extend all possible support to ensure that her medical education was not adversely affected and that advanced medical treatment required for her recovery would be facilitated at BIRRD Hospital.
“No student should have to give up her dreams because of a health challenge. We will stand by her so that she can recover, continue her education and fulfil her dream of becoming a doctor,” Dr. Jagadish said.
Building doctors who will serve the nation
Dr. Jagadish said that the vision of Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women goes beyond producing MBBS graduates. The institution is committed to developing clinically competent, ethically responsible and compassionate doctors who will serve the poor, the needy and the nation with dedication.
He congratulated all the students admitted to the 13th MBBS batch and wished them a successful and fulfilling medical career.
As part of the programme, Dr. Gudaru Jagadish presented medical aprons to the newly admitted students and administered a pledge symbolising the values, responsibilities and ethical commitment of the medical profession.
The programme was attended by Dr. Alok Sachan, Dean, SVIMS; Dr. Shilpa Kadiyala, In-charge Registrar; Dr. Umamaheswara Rao, Principal, Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women; Vice-Principals Dr. Sharvani and Dr. Vijayalakshmi, along with faculty members and other officials. They addressed the students and welcomed them to the institution.
The newly admitted students of the 13th MBBS batch and their parents also shared their experiences, aspirations and impressions during the orientation programme, making the occasion both memorable and meaningful.
